Job Description

• The Accountant supports the daily operation of the Cash Management team and is responsible for daily application of cash receipts and timely deposit of checks for NYCEDC and affiliated entities. The role involves preparing and entering journal entries and preparing supporting schedules. The Accountant collaborates with other departments to ensure transactions are recorded correctly for financial reporting, audit purposes, as well as in response to inquiries from internal and external stakeholders. Essential duties include maintaining comprehensive workpaper packages, preparing journal entries, preparing account and bank reconciliations for cash accounts and tenant security deposits, applying cash receipts for wires, checks, eBill, and lockbox deposits to appropriate tenant accounts, ensuring timely deposits of checks for NYCEDC and affiliated entities, reviewing and maintaining tenant balances in MRI, preparing bank forms to open and/or close tenant sub-accounts, providing prompt responses to inquiries, assisting auditors, and any other duties as assigned

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting • 1-2 years of experience in Accounting • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite applications (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint) • Experience with Microsoft Great Plains and MRI is a plus • Strong foundational knowledge of US GAAP to ensure accounts are fairly recorded and reported • Self-starter with strong analytical and problem solving skills • Demonstrated communication skills; communicating clearly, concisely, and professionally with internal and external stakeholders • Maintain the highest level of professionalism by upholding ethical standards and confidentiality consistent with the role • Must be a New York City resident within 180 days of hire
