Staff Mechanical Engineer, Plastic Design

Job Description

• Lead the design of the next generation of the cell vessel structure, particularly in the design of large-format plastic components and assemblies • Develop functional requirements in close collaboration with members of the Cell Engineering and Systems Engineering teams • Define and drive necessary analysis (e.g., FEA), hands-on testing, and failure analysis of plastic structural components • Analyze component and assembly tolerances and develop cost/manufacturing/performance/reliability trades • Collaborate with module design engineers to ensure seamless integration of all components • Guide manufacturing engineers and technical operations to transition designs from the prototype stage to high-volume production

Qualifications

• Demonstrated experience in plastic component design for structural applications • Excellent communication, organizational skills, and proven mentorship abilities • Degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field; Bachelor's with 7+ years, or Master's with 5+ years of industry experience in mechanical design and high proficiency in CAD • Demonstrated experience with the definition of verification testing for structural components • Direct experience with high-volume manufacturing, fabrication, and prototyping techniques; experience with tight-tolerance, multi-material component design for harsh environments
