Director of Business and Legal Affairs

Job Description

•We are seeking a Director of Business & Legal Affairs fluent in Japanese to join our legal team. Reporting to our VP of Business & Legal Affairs, Content and Games, you will manage various business and legal affairs for Crunchyroll, with a focus on anime licensing and co-production agreements with Japanese licensors and production committees. •You will structure, draft and negotiate a wide variety of agreements, including those relating to: content licensing/acquisition (both inbound and outbound); content distribution; marketing and advertising; events; sweepstakes; and merchandising •You will liaise and maintain relationships with main licensing partners •You will partner with content acquisition business affairs, and the acquisition and production teams. •You will provide practical advice and solutions to internal partners on all related legal matters •You excel in environments where you can work in new and developing areas of the law, tempered by an appreciation of the associated complexity and risk

Qualifications

• 10+ years of experience, with proficiency in entertainment, tech, and general corporate matters. You have worked in-house or at a top-tier law firm providing in-house support for streaming, entertainment, or tech companies • Juris Doctor and membership in good standing in at least one state bar. (Either CA required or ability to register as In-house attorney with State Bar of California) • Japanese bilingual fluency required; experience working in Japanese legal environments is a plus. • You have experience with the global media and entertainment industry and the ever-evolving industry landscape • You have practical knowledge of the digital VOD, TV, film, and tech industries • You excel in environments where you can work in new and developing areas of the law, tempered by an appreciation of the associated complexity and risk • You have excellent drafting skills, with creativity to create new language based on novel provisions negotiated in each deal • You can run multiple work streams simultaneously with precision, meeting deadlines • You can influence and establish relationships and trust with internal and external partners
